Investing in Stocks
What should I be careful about when investing in overseas stocks?
De Nederlandse versie van deze pagina is in voorbereiding. Tot die tijd staat de tekst in het Engels.
Overseas stocks are exposed to exchange rate risk when you convert currency before buying and after selling, so you can incur a loss from currency movements even if the share price rises.
Settlement dates differ by market, which can throw off your cash flow plans, and transaction costs such as brokerage commissions and currency conversion fees are often higher than for Korean stocks. The tax system also differs from that for Korean stocks, and you may become liable for capital gains tax and dividend income tax, so check the National Tax Service's guidance.
