What is a stock split, and does it affect the value of shares?

A stock split increases the number of shares by dividing the par value of each share while leaving the company's capital unchanged; because it amends the articles of incorporation, it requires a special resolution of the general meeting of shareholders.

Since the company's assets and capital do not change, splitting 1 share into 2, for example, doubles the number of shares and roughly halves the price per share, but the value of your holding stays the same. Even after a split, the par value per share cannot fall below KRW 100.
