Does the suitability principle not apply if I sign up online (non-face-to-face)?

Even in non-face-to-face transactions, the suitability principle applies in principle if the financial company recommends a product after the consumer has indicated a wish to receive recommendations.

Entering the information needed for personalized product recommendations, or selecting specific criteria such as returns or interest rates to find matching products, can be regarded as indicating a wish to receive recommendations. On the other hand, searching for a specific product by name and signing up is hard to regard as a recommendation.
