A professional investor is an investor regarded as able to bear investment risk in light of their expertise in financial investment products, the size of their assets and similar factors.

The law lists the State, the Bank of Korea, financial companies such as banks, insurers and financial investment firms, and stock-listed corporations, among others, and corporations and individuals that meet certain requirements can also become professional investors.
