Investor Protection

What are the six major principles for selling financial products?

The six major sales principles are the business conduct requirements that the Financial Consumer Protection Act imposes on sellers and advisers of financial products: the suitability principle, the appropriateness principle, the duty to explain, the prohibition on unfair business practices, the prohibition on unfair solicitation, and advertising rules.

In principle they apply to all financial products, but the scope of the suitability and appropriateness principles varies with the characteristics of the product. Financial companies that violate them may be sanctioned and held liable for damages.
