Does applying for dispute mediation interrupt the statute of limitations?

Yes. Under the Financial Consumer Protection Act, an application for dispute mediation has the effect of interrupting the statute of limitations.

However, it has no such effect if it is decided not to recommend a settlement or not to refer the case to the mediation committee; even then, if you file a lawsuit or take similar action within 1 month, the limitation period is deemed to have been interrupted at the time of the original application. The interrupted limitation period starts running anew from the acceptance of the mediation proposal or the end of the mediation procedure.
